Urban Makers Spring Market - Sat/Sun 14th/15th May at the Eco Pavilion

 

Urban Makers return to the Ecology Pavilion, Mile End Park this weekend to host their annual spring market.

Fifty different designers will be joining in each day selling everything from homeware, jewellery and art, to candles, toys, clothing and accessories. All sustainable and ethical. There will also be a range of workshops and Urban Makers Feast will be back with a great selection of food and drink. 

 Free entry.

Over 50s Winter Warmer Concert - at the Eco Pavilion, 9th December, 2-4.30PM

Tower Hamlets’ over 50s residents are invited to put on their party clothes and join fellow Hamletis for an afternoon concert of seasonal music and song. Top London jazz and swing band The Sunshine Kings are back to provide live music and festive cheer with New Orleans, Dixieland, 20s, traditional and vintage style sounds. In between sets, the choir of St Paul’s Way Secondary School will serenade the audience. Light refreshments will be served.

Seats are allocated in advance and booking is essential due to limited numbers. Please book as a group if you want to sit with friends. There is a maximum of 8 people per group.

Due to Covid-19, Tower Hamlets Council are unable to hold a Christmas Tea Dance this year so please note that there will be no dancing at this event.

The Friends of Mile End Park Annual General Meeting (AGM)- Monday 15th April

This coming Monday 15th April is the Friends of Mile End Park's AGM at the Eco Pavilion (which is just off Grove Road between the Britannia Fish Bar and the Grove/Roman Road junction). 

Yes for those of you that missed the MEOTRA AGM there is another chance to swig wine from a plastic cup whilst enjoying the ergonomics of plastic folding chairs

The past year has been a busy year for the Friends with lots of activities including: litter-picking, planting thousands of bluebells, snowdrops and wild-flower seeds, their Annual Community Fair and Dog Show, closer links with Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and the Friends of Meath Gardens and of course keeping an eye on the Park. At the AGM there is a chance to hear about these topics and their future plans.

The Park Management will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Free nibbles, soft drinks and wine will be available.

Urban Makers Spring Eco Market (Sat-Sun 11-5, Ecology Pavilion, Mile End Park)
Spread over two days this event has been carefully curated to have a green focus. As well as lots of handmade goods and designs, the makers have been carefully chosen for their eco-credentials.

Alongside the market there are lots of activities both inside and outside the Pavilion for the younger ones, including sewing workshops, pond dipping, an Art workshop with Dulcimer Draws, make your own soap with MBotanicals.


Breath Clean Workshops (2.30-4.30, Idea Store Bow)
Breathe Clean are providing Tower Hamlets residents with the materials & training needed to monitor nitrogen dioxide levels around the places that matter to them. Participants will measure the air quality at a number of locations over a period of six months, to get a more granular picture of the situation in the borough. The data from the Breathe Clean project will be made available on Mapping for Change’s community maps webpage. This workshop introduces the methodology used.


Roman Road Bow Neighbourhood Forum AGM (3-5)
The Roman Road Bow Neighbourhood Forum will be holding its first Annual General Meeting on Saturday 21st April from 3-5pm at St Paul’s Church, E3 5JL. Pop along to meet your Neighbourhood Forum, find out learnings from previous consultations, and discover the Forum’s plans for 2018.

The Forum is a group of local residents, businesses, and community groups who share an interest in planning issues that impact the local neighbourhood.

As a Forum member you can have as little as much involvement as you like. This can range from joining the Steering Group to attending the occasional consultation events. All Forum members receive newsletter updates and will have the opportunity to Vote on planning policies when they come to be written.

The Friends of Mile End Park AGM (Wed 11th April, 7.15PM, Eco Pavilion)

This Wednesday is the Friends of Mile End Park Annual General Meeting at 7.15PM in the Ecology Pavilion, Grove Road. The agenda is below.

I do hope you can come along. It should take under an hour.

The Friends' committee is keen to get more people involved in running the Friends. Nothing too onerous - the committee usually meet for an hour or so about 4 times a year in one of their houses. If you are interested and want to find out more, then please just pop along on Wednesday. They don't bite!

The Mile End Park Management Team will be providing an update on the Park, and there will be a chance to ask them any questions you might have, or perhaps you might have some ideas you'd like to put forward?

At the AGM there will have a selection of free refreshments such as nibbles, wine and soft drinks to help the evening go along.

Also, free copies of the recently published 80-page booklet Beer Barrels and Brewhouses (which explores the brewing heritage of the East End) will be available to the first 25 attendees. It is full of local history and an excellent read. 

Attendees will also be entered into a free prize draw to win a £30 voucher valid at  The Greedy Cow in Grove Road. Thanks Reg for donating the voucher.

Urban Makers East Market - this Sat/Sun 12-5PM, Ecology Pavilion

This weekend sees the return of the Urban Makers East Market to the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park (that's the venue in the park between the Britannia Fish Bar and Roman Road).

The market contains a carefully curated selection of contemporary designer makers with stalls selling original art works, homeware, jewellery, textiles, stationary, knitwear, hip children's clothes and much more. There are plenty of activities for children too (see below).

There are also four workshops running over the weekend:

Saturday: 11.30–1.30pm Make your own beaded hanging planter with Caron Goldman
2–4pm Create a collage with The Artistic Side of Life.

Sunday: 11.30–1.30pm Bespoke Face Mask Workshop with Suzie from Soothe-Me
2–4pm Bathbomb making with Philly Aime

Laurence King Publishing will be providing a range of activities. They will be supplying colouring and comic making books to the ever popular Minimakers’ Craft Room, hosting two temporary tattoo booths for kids and adults, plus children will be invited to dress as their favourite superhero for an action-packed treasure hunt. Laurence King will also be selling discounted books and games from their creative range of titles.

The event runs both Saturday and Sunday from 11-5PM
